Tesla (TSLA) received approval for its Robotaxi ride-hailing service in its third U.S. state—Arizona. The company got a Transportation Network Company permit, which allows it to operate an Uber-like service charging passengers, though the service currently requires human safety drivers and does not yet permit fully driverless operations.
In September, Tesla (TSLA) got a permit from the state to test and operate its autonomous vehicles with a safety driver. Tesla (TSLA) applied for the permit on November 13, 2025, and received approval on November 17, 2025, while the company has also applied separately for permits to test and operate fully driverless vehicles in the state and expressed interest in operating within the Phoenix Metro area.
Tesla (TSLA) currently operates its robotaxi service in Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area. Recently, the EV maker said it was hoping to land in Nevada, Arizona, and Florida, expanding to five new cities in those three states.
Arizona is among several states Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk has targeted for the company’s robotaxi service.
