Box office collections for Disney’s (DIS) Zootopia 2 are expected to be between $125M and $150M for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, according to media reports on Wednesday.
Deadline and Variety reported that Zootopia 2 earned $10.2M in preview screenings on Tuesday. They said the film’s preview start is the second-highest ever for the media company’s animation studio, behind Moana 2 and ahead of Frozen II.
Universal’s (CMCSA) Wicked: For Good reportedly earned $15.75M at the box office on Tuesday. The film is projected to add at least $80M over the three-day weekend and above $100M between Wednesday and Sunday, the reports said.
According to Comscore, Thanksgiving this year is facing tough comparisons, as Moana 2, Wicked, and Gladiator II earned a record-breaking $424.9M during the five-day holiday period last year.
“While that record is in no jeopardy of being broken, this year will nonetheless prove to be a solid Thanksgiving holiday corridor for movie theaters that will likely rank in the top five performing frames historically of all time,” Paul Dergarabedian, head of marketplace trends at Comscore, said.
