Amazon (AMZN) employees at nine German warehouses were on strike on Black Friday, seeking a collective bargaining agreement and better wages from the e-commerce giant, Reuters reported Friday.
Services union Verdi says approximately 3,000 German workers were on strike at Amazon’s (AMZN) facilities, including one of its biggest fulfilment centers at Bad Hersfeld.
While the work stoppage aims to disrupt sales on the one of the biggest retail day of the holiday season, Amazon (AMZN) said the strike will have no impact on orders thanks to a staff of 40,000.
The German strikes are part of a larger “Make Amazon Pay” campaign across the globe by the UNI Global Union.
The protests will include union members, human-rights organizations, environmentalist groups, and tech employees on Black Friday to Cyber Monday to draw attention to claims that Amazon (AMZN) is fueling “an unholy alliance between Big Tech and the far right.”
“Amazon is remaking the global economy in its own image – extractive, exploitive and authoritarian,” the group states on its “Make Amazon Pay” website.
Seeking Alpha has contacted Amazon (AMZN) for a response.
