Meta Platforms (META) has delayed the release of its new mixed reality glasses, code-named “Phoenix,” to the first half of 2027, Business Insider reported on Friday, citing an internal memo from an executive.
The memo was from Maher Saba, VP of Foundation and Head of Engineering at Meta (META), Business Insider said. The initial release of the product was planned in H2 2026.
Business Insider said moving the release date back would give META “a lot more breathing room to get the details right,” quoting from a separate memo it saw by Metaverse executives Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns.
Meta (META) did not immediately respond to Seeking Alpha’s request for comment.
The Business Insider report comes two days after Bloomberg News said META was considering budget cuts of up to 30% in its Metaverse division, a segment that has seen $73B in cumulative losses since its inception.
