J&J loses latest talc case; ordered to pay $40M to two women

  • A California jury on Friday found in favor of two women who sued Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), alleging that the healthcare giant’s baby powder, which contained talc, caused their ovarian cancer.
  • J&J was ordered to pay $18M to one of the women, and $22M to the other.
  • The company told Reuters it plans to appeal.
  • Both women said they used J&J’s baby powder for about 40 years. Their lawyers argued the company knew about risks associated with the product for decades but kept quiet.
