The domestic box office delivered an estimated $75.1 million over the weekend of December 12-14, 2025, according to Comscore, with year-to-date revenue now reaching $8.138 billion, up 0.5% compared with the same point in 2024.
Disney’s (DIS) “Zootopia 2” continued its dominant run, holding the No. 1 spot for a third consecutive weekend. The animated sequel grossed an estimated $26.3 million from 3,835 theaters, pushing its domestic total to $259.0 million through Sunday. Globally, the film has now amassed approximately $1.136 billion, crossing the $1 billion mark in just 17 days, a milestone confirmed earlier in the week.
Universal’s (CMCSA) “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” maintained second place in its sophomore frame, earning $19.5 million from 3,579 locations. The horror sequel now stands at $95.5 million domestically and $173.2 million worldwide, reinforcing Blumhouse’s continued box office strength.
Rounding out the top three, Universal’s (CMCSA) musical adaptation “Wicked: For Good” added $8.55 million in its fourth weekend. The film has now generated $312.1 million domestically and $467.1 million globally, solidifying its status as one of the year’s standout theatrical performers.
Among specialty and international titles, Moviegoers’ Indian action epic “Dhurandhar” impressed with a strong $9,152 per-theater average, while Lionsgate’s (LION) “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” continued its steady run in weekend five, nearing $60 million domestically.
The weekend also saw several notable openings. 20th Century Studios’ (DIS) “Ella McKay,” written and directed by James L. Brooks, debuted to $2.1 million from 2,500 theaters, while Universal’s (CMCSA) holiday reissue of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000) delivered $1.85 million across 2,250 locations. Janus Films’ Chinese sci-fi drama “Resurrection” posted the weekend’s strongest per-theater result, earning $21,400 PTA from just three theaters.
IMAX delivers $10M weekend ahead of ‘Avatar’ return
IMAX (IMAX) screens worldwide generated roughly $10 million over the weekend as anticipation builds for “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” “Zootopia 2” alone contributed $5.2 million globally in IMAX, bringing its IMAX total to $56.6 million, making it one of the highest-grossing animated releases in the format’s history.
Looking ahead, IMAX is preparing for its widest global release ever, with “Avatar: Fire and Ash” set to debut across 1,698 IMAX screens in 85 markets, including North America and China.
