Chinese tech giant Alibaba (BABA) is considering ordering some of AMD’s (AMD) advanced artificial intelligence GPUs, MLex reported.
The tech giant could order somewhere between 40,000 and 50,000 of AMD’s MI308 AI accelerators, the news outlet reported, citing its sources.
AMD shares rose 3% in premarket trading, while Alibaba was fractionally higher.
Alibaba and AMD did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su met with China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao in Beijing last week, the government agency said. “The two sides exchanged views on the company’s business development in China and strengthening cooperation with China,” the agency said in a statement, though no specifics were mentioned.
President Trump said earlier this month that he had approved the sale of Nvidia’s (NVDA) H200 GPUs to China, and that the same approach would apply to AMD, Intel (INTC) and “other great American companies.”
