Amazon halts plans for commercial drone deliveries in Italy

Amazon (AMZN) on Sunday said it had halted its plans for commercial drone deliveries in Italy after a strategic review.

“Despite positive engagement and progress with Italian aerospace regulators, the broader business regulatory framework in the country does not, at this time, support our longer-term objectives for this program,” an AMZN spokesperson told Seeking Alpha in an emailed statement.

The move comes despite positive talks between Amazon (AMZN) and Italy’s aviation regulator, Ente Nazionale per l’Aviazione Civile (ENAC), in June. The parties had met to discuss the progress of AMZN’s drone delivery project in the San Salvo area.

“Our drone delivery projects in the U.S. and UK continue positively, with test flights and commercial deliveries proving successful and well-received by customers,” the spokesperson added.
