Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook has stressed the importance of integrating health and well-being features into their devices, and the Cupertino company appears committed to that with the addition of new programs for its Fitness+ subscribers to start 2026.
Fitness+, which is now available in 48 countries and regions, has added a four-week plan to help users restart their workout journeys. They include strength, HIIT (high-intensity interval training) and yoga. It becomes available on January 12.
The subscription plan is also adding to its Artist Spotlight series, with new music workouts featuring artists such as Karol G and Bad Bunny, which drops on February 2.
Fitness+ is available through the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, but the experience is expanded through the Apple Watch or AirPods Pro 3. Apple is also working with third-party apps such as Strava, Runna, Golfshot and 18Birdies.
Apple revealed details of a study showing that Apple Watch owners are more likely to stay committed to fitness goals. They highlighted the second Friday in January, known as Quitter’s Day, which is when many people forgo their New Year’s fitness resolutions.
“During the first two weeks of January, over 60% of Apple Watch users increased their daily exercise minutes by over 10% from their December average,” Apple said. “Notably, many Apple Watch users kept up those exercise levels through Quitter’s Day and into the following months. Nearly 80% of those who increased their exercise minutes maintained those increased exercise levels through the second half of January, with 90% of that group also maintaining elevated levels through February and March.”
The Apple Heart and Movement Study, conducted in collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the American Heart Association, included more than 250,000 people in the U.S. who consented to participate.
Apple does not break out the number of subscribers that each of its services has, but Apple Fitness+ was believed to have 100M users at the end of 2024. Introduced in 2020, Apple Fitness+ is part of Apple’s important Services unit, which generated $28.75B in revenue in its most recent quarter.
Fitness+ costs $9.99 per month or $79.99 annually.
