“Big Short” investor Michael Burry bets against Oracle

  • Famed investor Michael Burry has disclosed that he currently owns put options on Oracle (ORCL), marking his latest bearish bet in the booming field of artificial intelligence. He attributed the decision to uncertainty over Oracle’s (ORCL) cloud strategy and its rising debt load.
  • Burry, who accurately predicted the U.S. housing sector collapse nearly two decades ago, made the disclosure late Friday in a Substack feed, which he launched in November as a paid newsletter after liquidating his hedge fund, Scion Asset Management.
  • Illustrated in Michael Lewis’s book “The Big Short” and its film adaptation, Burry’s short bets on subprime mortgage securities paid off before the U.S. housing market collapsed, leading to the 2008 financial crisis.
  • Early November, Nvidia (NVDA) and Palantir (PLTR) traded lower after Scion Asset Management disclosed put options on the companies.
