Amazon (AMZN) has reportedly entered into discussions with OpenAI (AMZN) for the development of customized artificial intelligence models that could be used in Amazon’s AI products, according to The Information.
This news follows last week’s revelation that Amazon might invest up to $50B in OpenAI, which is currently involved in a new fundraising round. Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT) and SoftBank (SFTBY)(SFTBF) are also reportedly taking part in the round.
OpenAI’s models could be customized to improve the performance of Amazon’s AI products, such as Alexa, the report said.
However, OpenAI said it was focused on its multiyear, $38B deal with Amazon Web Services. Under the agreement, OpenAI will have access to Amazon’s infrastructure to run AI workloads.
“We are focused on our strong existing compute partnership with Amazon,” said an OpenAI spokesperson, according to the report.
What’s more, Amazon already has a close relationship with OpenAI rival Anthropic (ANTHRO), which helps run Amazon’s AI assistants and agents for shopping, coding and data search.
