Alibaba (BABA) said its AI app Qwen has generated over 120M orders from consumers over the past six days, from Feb. 6 to Feb. 11.
Alibaba said in a blog post that since Feb. 6, it has upgraded the Qwen App by integrating Freshippo — the company’s new retail platform for groceries and fresh goods — its business-to-consumer online grocery arm Tmall Supermarket, and entertainment ticketing platform Damai. This move allows consumers to order food and beverages, book flights, and buy movie tickets all through the Qwen app while enjoying significant incentives during the Chinese New Year holiday.
Qwen App has ranked number one on the Apple App Store’s free apps chart in China for the past six consecutive days, according to the company.
Alibaba is offering a free shopping voucher worth 25 yuan (about $3.60) to every user of its Qwen app, which enables consumers to buy food, drinks, and groceries online. In addition, the Qwen app is offering digital red envelopes containing random amounts of money to users, allowing them to win up to 2,888 yuan in cash, The Information reported.
The company intends to spend around 3B yuan (about $431M) in total on Qwen’s overall holiday giveaway campaign.
Competitors ByteDance (BDNCE) and Tencent (TCEHY) (TCTZF) have all started offering giveaways and other incentives to promote their AI chatbot apps ahead of the Lunar New Year this month. ByteDance and Tencent have unveiled similar campaigns with red envelopes and other promotions.
