Google (GOOG)(GOOGL) continues to expand its presence in the Lone Star State with a new data center located in North Texas near the Oklahoma border.
The new project will be in Wilbarger County. Power for the facility will be developed adjacently by AES (AES). AES has secured the land and interconnection agreements and will build the necessary shared electricity infrastructure for the co-located facility. It will also provide retail, cost optimization, and related services to the data center campus under a long-term energy management agreement.
Google has now contracted more than 7,800 MW of net-new energy generation and capacity to the Texas electricity grid. The new data center, located near Vernon, is part of Google’s plan to invest $40B in Texas through 2027 for cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure. Other new data centers are planned for Armstrong and Haskell counties.
