Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) has officially introduced the Oakley Meta glasses, its latest AI wearable aimed at attracting athletes and sports enthusiasts, according to a blog post announcement on Friday.
The move follows the social media and tech giant’s widespread success with Ray-Ban AI glasses and is an extension of the company’s partnership for collaborating with more notable brands under the EssilorLuxottica (OTCPK:ESLOF) (OTCPK:ESLOY) umbrella.
The company said its “Oakley Meta HSTN glasses” can last for up to eight hours of typical use and up to 19 hours on standby. The pair can charge up to 50% in 20 minutes and comes with a charging case that can deliver up to 48 hours of charging on the go. It sports a higher-resolution camera that can record Ultra HD (3K) video and has Meta AI built in.
The company has put a price tag of $399 on the new wearable, which will be available later this summer. For comparison, the Oakleys are $100 higher than the Ray-Bans, which start at $299.
A limited edition of Oakley Meta glasses will be available for preorder starting July 11 for $499, the company said. Select pairs of Oakley Meta HSTN glasses will come with Oakley’s PRIZM lens.
The glasses will be available in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. The company is also working to bring its wearable to Mexico, India, and the United Arab Emirates later this year.
To promote the new wearable, Meta is launching a global campaign, which will include French soccer star Kylian Mbappé, three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, basketball champion JR Smith, paragliding world champion Bicho Carrera, and skateboarders Boo Johnson and Ishod Wair.
