Safe Superintelligence, a new artificial intelligence startup co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, has raised $1B, executives at the company told Reuters.
The money will value the company at more than $5B, the news outlet added, citing sources close to the matter. Investors included venture capital firms like Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, DST Global and SV Angel.
The new funding round will allow Safe Superintelligence, which is based in Palo Alto, Calif. and Tel Aviv, to create artificial intelligence systems that top human capabilities, also known as general AI.
Sutskever left OpenAI, which is backed by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), in June. He was a part of the company’s board of directors that fired Chief Executive Sam Altman in November 2023. Altman eventually returned to the company, and Sutskever stepped down from OpenAI’s board of directors.
