- Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is shutting down the Freevee standalone app in August amid efforts to consolidate all content under its Prime Video platform, according to a notice on the Freevee app.
- Freevee was folded into Amazon’s streaming service at its 2019 launch, originally operating under the IMDb brand, which Amazon had acquired in 1998. The company notified viewers in November that it had “decided to phase out Freevee branding,” and would integrate the service into Prime Video.
- After August, viewers will be able to find Freevee content under the “Watch for Free” section on Prime Video.
- Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) shares are fractionally higher into Thursday’s open.
