Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is expanding its online auto platform to include used and certified pre-owned vehicles. The e-commerce giant will make used and CPO inventory available through Hyundai (OTCPK:HYMTF) dealers to consumers in Los Angeles starting August 4.

The Amazon Autos platform enables customers to shop for new Hyundai (OTCPK:HYMTF) vehicles directly through its website, with the goal of making car buying more transparent, convenient, and streamlined.

“Customer satisfaction with their purchase on Amazon Auto is off the charts,” highlighted Amazon Autos Global Director Fan Jin in an interview with Automotive News. “We also see at a macroeconomic level that more customers are looking to purchase cars online, and so we think that’s a really nice tailwind for us,” added Jin.

After testing the program with Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) employees and select Hyundai (OTCPK:HYMTF) dealers in adjacent regions, the retailer launched Amazon Autos at the end of 2024. The program has since expanded to 130 cities, although Amazon (AMZN) has not disclosed how many dealers have signed up for the program or how many sales have been initiated through the auto-buying platform.

“The technical configuration required for dealerships to enable a full e-commerce experience on Amazon involves integrating live inventory, real-time pricing, and transaction processing with dealer software systems,” noted Jin.

Amazon Autos differs from Costco’s auto program since Costco (COST) acts only as a referral service for members to search inventory and get pre-negotiated pricing online, while Amazon’s (AMZN) program captures the whole auto shopping process.
