Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is addressing missed deliveries in multi-family and gated communities with its Amazon Key Access Control System — a customizable solution that enables residents to grant secure entry for packages and visitors.
Amazon Key addresses the shortcomings of traditional intercom security systems with features like online access management, and remote control via smartphones.
Unlike the current Amazon Key system – which provides garage access for deliveries – the Amazon Key Access Control System includes new features including virtual keys which allows residents to grant gate-entry or access through the Ring (RNG) app; intercom boost to initiate one-way video and two-way audio calls via a smartphone; intercom lite and intercom plus which provides different levels of access to resident directories or access codes.
The Amazon Key Access Control System virtual key and intercom lite systems are now available to order, while the intercom boost and intercom plus will be available this summer.
While there are other products that provide “virtual keys,” including the ButterflyMX mobile app and Virtual Keypad through a Google (GOOG) app, the Amazon Key Access allows residents and property managers the ability to conveniently and securely manage access on an as-needed basis and without setting time parameters for access.
“We chose the Amazon Key Access Control System because it offered an affordable, modern replacement for aging intercoms, which have become increasingly expensive and difficult to maintain,” said Gabriel Siegal, EVP and Head of Asset Management at Charney Property Management.
The announcement gave shares of Ring (RNG) a boost at Tuesday’s open, adding another 1.5% to Ring’s (RNG) three day advance.
