Amazon (AMZN) said Wednesday it is investing in small nuclear reactors, coming just two days after a similar announcement by Google; advanced nuclear tech companies NuScale Power (NYSE:SMR) +8.3%, Oklo (NYSE:OKLO) +8.1% and Nano Nuclear Energy (NNE) +7.8% pre-market.
Amazon Web Services (AMZN) said it signed an agreement with Dominion Energy (D) to explore the development of a small module nuclear reactor near Dominion’s existing North Anna nuclear power station.
Amazon (AMZN) also will invest in reactor developer X-energy for its early development work, and collaborate with regional utility consortium Energy Northwest in Washington state to support construction of four X-energy reactors there.
Combined, the announcements could account for more than 5,000 MW of power by the late 2030s with the potential for more.
