Amazon opens AWS Region in Malaysia to meet demand for cloud services
Amazon said that the Amazon Web Services Region in Malaysia was now available, following up on last year’s plan to open a hub in the area.
The AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region is the first infrastructure Region in Malaysia and the 13 in Asia Pacific, joining Hong Kong, Hyderabad, Jakarta, Melbourne, Mumbai, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, and Tokyo and the Mainland China Beijing and Ningxia Regions.
The U.S. tech giant noted that the construction and operation of the new AWS Region is estimated to add about $12.1B (MYR 57.3B) to Malaysia’s gross domestic product and will support an average of over 3,500 full-time equivalent jobs at external businesses annually through 2038.
The AWS Region will help to meet the high demand for cloud services while supporting innovation in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, according to the company.
In 2016, AWS established a presence in Malaysia with its first AWS office in Malaysia.
