Amazon secures partial dismissal of FTC antitrust lawsuit – report

- Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) has won partial dismissal of a lawsuit by the Federal Trade Commission alleging that the e-commerce giant uses anti-competitive practices to maintain its online retail dominance, Reuters reported.
- The FTC filed the lawsuit last year, in which it claimed that Amazon (AMZN) was using an algorithm that pushed prices up by more than $1B. Amazon (AMZN) disclosed that it stopped using the algorithm in 2019.
- The company requested a federal court to dismiss the case in December as the FTC showed no evidence of harm to consumers.
- District judge John Chun reportedly issued a sealed ruling, which partially granted Amazon’s (AMZN) motion. The FTC can still pursue any claims in the lawsuit that Chun did not permanently dismiss.
- The judge also rejected Amazon’s (AMZN) request for the FTC to present evidence of alleged violations and its proposed remedies in the same trial. He ruled that the case would be tried in two parts.
