Amazon (AMZN) is now offering Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy (NVO) in a pill form on its pharmacy platform, capitalizing on the popularity – and proliferation — of weight-loss medications.
Customers can acquire the recently-approved Wegovy pill for as little as $25 per month with eligible insurance plans, or through a cash-pay option for $149. Amazon Pharmacy (AMZN) currently offers Wegovy, Ozempic (NVO), and Zepbound (LLY) pen injectors with a prescription.
“By offering Wegovy through both insurance and a straightforward cash-pay option, we’re giving people more choice, greater transparency, and fewer barriers to care,” said Tanvi Patel, general manager of Amazon Pharmacy.
Healthcare providers can submit a prescription directly to the online Amazon Pharmacy (AMZN) or to an Amazon Pharmacy kiosk, enabling patients to receive their medication as soon as the same day. Customers can also access Amazon One Medical assistance for treatment recommendations, care management for weight loss, and clinical evaluation.
Amazon Pharmacy also collaborates with healthcare providers and digital health companies like Weight Watchers (WW), Wheel, and 9amHealth to expand access to weight loss medications and treatments.
The news is weighing on shares of Hims & Hers Health (HIMS), WW International (WW), GoodRx Holdings (GDRX), and LifeMD (LFMD), all of which offer comparable weight-loss medications, including Wegovy in pill form.
