Amazon reveals new data center components to improve efficiency
Amazon Web Services (NASDAQ:AMZN) unveiled a new set of data center components to support artificial intelligence and improve efficiencies, as well as several cloud migrations, during the first day of its re:Invent event in Las Vegas today.
“These data center capabilities represent an important step forward with increased energy efficiency and flexible support for emerging workload,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of Infrastructure Services at AWS. “But what is even more exciting is that they are designed to be modular, so that we are able to retrofit our existing infrastructure for liquid cooling and energy efficiency to power generative AI applications and lower our carbon footprint.”
AWS said a more efficient cooling system can reduce mechanical energy consumption by 46% without increasing water usage on a per-megawatt basis.
“By enabling advanced liquid cooling solutions, AI infrastructure can be efficiently cooled while minimizing energy use,” said Ian Buck, Nvidia’s (NVDA) vice president of hyperscale and HPC.
Migrations to cloud
Amazon also announced Comcast (CMCSA) has moved its 5G wireless core from on premise into AWS. The new cloud-based network is designed to provide Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business Mobile customers with next-generation 5G wireless services.
Lotus Technology (LOT) has also migrated to AWS to help support its luxury car customers. The automaker plans to transform into a global luxury technology brand by 2028.
Wiwynn, a cloud IT infrastructure provider, announced it has selected AWS Outposts to expand its manufacturing footprint.
“By adopting AWS Outposts, Wiwynn can unlock the full potential of smart manufacturing, driving innovation and production efficiency, and global competitiveness in the Industry 4.0 era,” said Wiwynn Chief Information Officer James Wynn.
In addition, Midea, one of the world’s largest producers of household and commercial air conditioners, announced it would leverage AWS generative AI to improve its customer relations and to help expand its operations.
