Amazon unveils new Echo Show 21 smart display, updates Echo Show 15
Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) took the wraps off its latest smart display, the Echo Show 21 on Wednesday, giving the device twice the viewing area of the Echo Show 15.
The new Echo Show 21, which costs $399.99 and is available to order immediately, has better audio quality than the Echo Show 15, offering immersive sound, double the bass, and room adaption technology. Amazon also said it improved the auto-framing camera to allow for better video calls, while it has 65% more zooming capability than the Echo Show 15. Noise reduction technology was also added.
Positioned as a smart home hub, both the Echo Show 21 and Echo Show 15 (which was also upgraded) are able to connect to Wi-Fi and are compatible with Thread and Zigbee devices, allowing them to control light switches, plus and other things. They can also be used to check stock prices, read news and get access to sports scores.
The upgraded version of the Echo Show 15 will cost $299.99 and both the Echo Show 15 and Echo Show 21 come with Amazon’s Alexa Voice Remote and equipment to mount them to a wall.
The new Echo Show devices are the latest from Amazon, which also unveiled new the Fire HD 8 tablets and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series last week.
The release of Amazon’s smart home display comes amid reports that Apple (AAPL) could unveil similar devices in short order, perhaps as soon as March 2025.
Amazon shares fell 1.7% in late morning trading on Wednesday.
