AMC Entertainment (AMC) said Monday it saw the highest movie theater attendance so far in 2025 during the Thanksgiving week, fueled by films like Zootopia 2 and Wicked: For Good, and expects momentum to continue for the holiday season.
For the last week of November, more than 5.5 million people visited AMC in the U.S., and more than 1.3 million attended an ODEON Cinemas location internationally, the company said.
Based on attendance, AMC also witnessed its busiest Wednesday and busiest Friday of 2025 during the Thanksgiving week in the U.S.
On the other hand, IMAX Corporation (IMAX) said its Thanksgiving box office collections shattered its own record, generating $40.8M worldwide Wednesday through Sunday.
Zootopia 2 generated $32.1M worldwide in its debut for IMAX, while Wicked: For Good earned $7.2M across the holiday weekend period for the premium theater chain.
Several media reports, citing Comscore, said the animated sequel by Disney (DIS) grossed an estimated $156M domestically over the five-day period—with a global haul of $556M, making it the biggest worldwide debut for an animated film in history.
Universal’s (CMCSA) Wicked: For Good brought in $93M domestically during the same timeframe. Despite being in its second weekend, the musical adaptation maintained momentum, reaching a domestic total of $270M and $393M globally.
