Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook has told employees of the tech giant that he will lobby U.S. lawmakers on the country’s current approach to immigration, Bloomberg reported.
“I’ve heard from some of you that don’t feel comfortable leaving your homes,” Cook said during an all-hands meeting on Thursday, according to the news outlet. “No one should feel this way. No one.”
Apple shares were fractionally higher on Thursday.
Cook, who said last month that he was “heartbroken” by the events that happened in Minnesota, pointed out that the iPhone maker has many employees across the U.S. that are “some form of visa.”
“For as long as I can remember, we have been a smarter, wiser, more innovative company because we’ve attracted the best and brightest from all corners of the world,” Cook added. “I am going to continue to lobby lawmakers on this issue. You have my word on that.”
“Every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect,” Cook also said during the meeting. “No matter where they come from.”
Cook also discussed the company’s artificial intelligence efforts and teased upcoming devices during the meeting.
