Apple chooses Google’s Gemini to run next version of Siri: report

  • Apple (AAPL) has chosen Google’s (GOOG) (GOOGL) Gemini artificial intelligence models to run its next version of Siri, CNBC reported.
  • “After careful evaluation, we determined that Google’s technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and we’re excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users,” the tech company told CNBC.
  • Apple has not yet responded to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
  • Many industry observers have long thought that the updated Siri, which is set to be released later this year, would be backed by Google’s Gemini. In November, media reports indicated that Apple was near a deal with Google to pay the search giant roughly $1B per year. The deal would give Apple access to Google’s 1.2T-parameter Gemini model — an enormous leap from the AI technology currently driving Siri.
  • Apple and Alphabet shares were fractionally higher in late morning trading on Monday.
