Apple receives request from EU to stop geo-blocking services

- Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has received a request from the European Commission to stop geo-blocking content according to a user’s geographical location on several of its services, the regulatory body said on Tuesday.
- “[The] European Commission notified Apple of several potentially prohibited geo-blocking practices that the [Consumer Protection Cooperation Network] has identified on certain Apple Media Services, namely App Store, Apple Arcade, Music, iTunes Store, Books and Podcasts,” the agency said in a statement. “The network requested Apple to align their practices with the EU’s anti-geo-blocking rules.”
- Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple has one month to reply to the findings and offer up remedies, the European Commission added.
- Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Seeking Alpha.
- Shares were little changed in premarket trading.
