Apple reveals new MacBook Pro models featuring M4 chip family
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled its new MacBook Pro models today, as the company continues to unfurl the new lineup of Macs this week, which are all built for Apple Intelligence.
The new MacBook Pros are powered by Apple’s new M4 family of chips, including the M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max. The chips are built with 3-nanometer technology. The new GPUs also provide a faster ray-tracing engine.
“With the world’s fastest CPU core, immensely more powerful GPUs, and the fastest Neural Engine ever, the power-efficient performance and capabilities of the M4 family extend its lead as the most advanced lineup of chips in the industry,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies.
M4 supports up to 32GB of unified memory and features memory bandwidth of 120GB/s. The display engine of the M4 family is enhanced to support two external displays in addition to a built-in display. The M4 now supports up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports.
What’s more, the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips support Thunderbolt 5 for the first time on a Mac.
“With the powerful M4 family of chips, and packed with pro features like Thunderbolt 5, an advanced 12MP Center Stage camera, an all-new nano-texture display option, and Apple Intelligence, the new MacBook Pro continues to be, by far, the world’s best pro laptop,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,599, while the 16-inch models start at $2,499. The new MacBook Pros are available for pre-order today, with availability starting November 8.
Apple also updated its MacBook Air, doubling the starting memory to 16GB for models with M2 and M3 chips. Its starting price remains at $999. It is also built for Apple Intelligence.
Apple shares dipped 1% by noon trading.
Earlier this week, Apple revealed the new Mac mini and the new iMac.
