Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is planning to upgrade the wide-angle lens in the high-end version of the iPhone 18 and give consumers a variable aperture camera, TF International Securities’ Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said on Friday.
“One major upgrade for the 2026 high-end iPhone 18 is the wide-camera lens upgrading to a variable aperture camera, significantly enhancing the user photography experience,” Kuo wrote on his blog, adding that Chinese company Sunny Optical will be the primary shutter supplier and the second variable aperture lens supplier. Luxshare will be the secondary shutter supplier and Largan Precision will be the primary supplier for the aperture lens.
Kuo also estimated that Apple iPhone shipments next year are estimated to grow around 5% to 230M units, due in part to a slimmer design for the iPhone 17 and a “more mature” version of Apple Intelligence, which was finally released to consumers last month.
Apple shares were fractionally lower in premarket trading on Friday.
