Apple’s permit for self-driving vehicles reportedly cancelled
- Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) permit for testing self-driving vehicles on public roads in California has been canceled by the Department of Motor Vehicles in that state in response to a company request, AppleInsider reported.
- First issued in 2017, the permit allowed the iPhone maker to test autonomous vehicles on roads with a safety driver until April 30, 2025.
- Apple (AAPL) has contacted the DMV requesting a cancellation of its Autonomous Vehicles Program Manufacturer’s Testing Permit. The department responded with a letter on Sept. 25 saying that the cancellation would take effect by Sept. 27.
- It’s the latest setback for Apple’s (AAPL) self-driving car project, Titan. Reports emerged early this year indicating that the tech giant had delayed the launch of its Apple Car with a massive reduction in its autonomy level.
