Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is planning a dedicated app for video games on its devices, reported Bloomberg News on Tuesday.
The company will preinstall the app on the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV set-top box later this year, the report said, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
According to the report, the software will serve as a launcher for titles and centralize in-game achievements, leaderboards, communications and other activity. The new app will replace Game Center and will feature editorial content from Apple about new titles, while offering access to the App Store’s games and promote Arcade.
The Cupertino, California-based company did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
The iPhone maker is also planning a Mac version of the app, the report added.
The company reportedly also acquired RAC7, the two-person video game developer behind the hit title Sneaky Sasquatch, as part of its move to strengthen its place in the gaming market.
