AWS expands partnership with SLB to accelerate energy development

Amazon Web Services (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced a new collaboration with SLB (NYSE:SLB) to bring key technologies from SLB’s Delfi digital platform to customers on AWS.

SLB, formerly known as Schlumberger, is the world’s largest oilfield services company and provider of digital solutions for subsurface and surface engineering.

Amazon and SLB also entered into a multi-year agreement to deploy low-carbon technologies. Amazon has a goal to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 as AWS data centers require massive amounts of energy.

“AWS’s continued commitment to our energy customers is driving new innovations and efficiencies with the power of the cloud while reducing costs across the industry,” said Howard Gefen, general manager of energy and utilities at AWS. “Digital and decarbonization technology companies are essential for this transformation, and we’re happy to expand our partnership with SLB to help organization scale AI, data and cloud technologies.”

A joint study by AWS and Accenture (ACN) found “running optimized workloads on AWS’s infrastructure is up to 4.1 times more efficient than on-premises and can reduce workloads’ carbon footprint by up to 99%.”

SLB announced a partnership with Nvidia last week to develop generative artificial intelligence solutions for the energy industry.
