Biggest stock movers today: ORCL, RBRK, and more.
Stock futures edged lower Tuesday morning as traders exercised caution ahead of key inflation data and weighed the potential for interest rate cuts from the Federal Reserve.
Here are some of Tuesday’s biggest stock movers:
Biggest stock gainers
- Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) shares surged over 8% following its stronger-than-expected first-quarter results, driven by rising AI demand in its cloud computing business and new partnerships with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. Cloud revenue, including infrastructure and applications, reached $5.6B, just shy of the $5.61B estimate, with infrastructure revenue soaring 45% Y/Y to $2.2B and application revenue increasing 10% to $3.5B. Fusion Cloud ERP revenue rose 16% to $900M, while total remaining performance obligations jumped 53% to $99B. Oracle also announced a $0.40 per share dividend, payable on October 24.
Biggest stock losers
- Rubrik (NYSE:RBRK) shares lost about 9%, despite reporting better-than-expected FQ2 results and raising its full-year guidance. For FY2025, Rubrik now projects revenue between $830M and $838M, up from the previous range of $810M to $824M. The cybersecurity firm expects subscription annual recurring revenue to reach approximately $1.03B, exceeding the consensus of $989.7M. The company forecasts an adjusted EPS loss of $2.06 to $2.12, with a midpoint of $2.09, which is smaller than the anticipated $2.30 loss. - AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE:AU) shares dropped 9% following the announcement of a $2.5B stock and cash deal to acquire Egypt-focused Centamin (OTCPK:CELTF), a smaller rival. According to the terms of the deal, Centamin shareholders will receive 0.06983 new AngloGold shares for each Centamin share they hold, along with $0.125 in cash. This deal aims to expand AngloGold Ashanti’s operations in Africa and will result in AngloGold Ashanti shareholders owning approximately 83.6% of the enlarged issued share capital, while Centamin shareholders will own approximately 16.4%. Centamin shareholders will benefit from up-front cash returns and ongoing participation in a larger, more diversified combined group with an enhanced capital markets profile and greater trading liquidity.
