- All day – Shareholders with Heartland Financial USA (HTLF) will meet to vote on the acquisition offer from UMB Financial (UMBF).
- All day – The KeyBanc Capital Markets Technology Leadership Forum will include participation from Check Point Software (CHKP), Arista Networks (ANET), Simulations Plus (SLP), Cogent Communications (CCOI), and Blackberry (BB).
- All day – Executives with Google (GOOG) and Microsoft (MSFT) will give keynote addresses at the Black Hat USA 2024 Conference.
- All day – The United States Patent and Trademark Office will hold an open roundtable on AI technology and NIL protections. Input received during the roundtable will assist the USPTO’s work to develop intellectual property policy recommendations, which analysts say could be a major investor topic in the year ahead.
- 2:00 p.m. The Federal Reserve will release the Senior Loan Officer Opinion Survey on bank lending practices.
- 5:00 p.m. San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank President Mary Daly will discuss monetary policy and economic trends before a moderated conversation hosted in partnership with the Hawaii Executive Collaborative.
Tuesday – August 6
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Amgen (AMGN), Caterpillar (CAT), Uber Technologies (UBER), Airbnb (ABNB), Duke Energy (DUK), Celsius Holdings (CELH), and Yum Brands (YUM). Options trading implies a double-digit share price swing for Fortinet (FTNT), Coupang (CPNG), and Super Micro Computer (SMCI) after their reports are released.
- All day – Notable investor events include a fireside chat by Clover Health Investments (CLOV) at the KeyBanc Technology Leadership Forum, and annual meetings for Accolade (ACCD) and EQT (EQT).
- All day – The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a two-day hearing in relation to its investigation into how and why a door plug departed from a Boeing (BA) 737-9 MAX passenger jet during a flight operated by Alaska Airlines (ALK).

Wednesday – August 7
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Disney (DIS), McKesson (MCK), CVS Health (CVS), Hilton Worldwide (HLT) and Vizio (VZIO). Options trading implies a double-digit share price swing for Shopify (SHOP) and Fastly (FSLY) after their reports are released.
- All day – The J.P. Morgan Auto Conference will feature appearances by Aptiv (APTV), AEye (LIDR), Gentherm (THRM), and Cooper-Standard (CPS).
- All day – The Raymond James Industrial and Energy Conference will feature presentations by SkyWest (SKYW) and Hess Midstream (HESM).
- 8:00 a.m. Brown & Brown (BRO) will hold a conference call to discuss the acquisition of Quintes’ insurance operation.
- 9:00 a.m. The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index will be released.
- 9:00 a.m. Judge Nelson to hold status conference in FTC lawsuit to block Kroger’s (KR) purchase of Albertsons (ACI).
- 2:30 p.m. Shareholders of WalkMe (WKME) will vote on the $1.5 billion acquisition offer from SAP SE (SAP).
- 3:00 p.m. The latest Consumer Credit report will be released.
- Postmarket – Costco (COST) will release its July Sales Report.
Thursday – August 8
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include Eli Lilly (LLY), Gilead Sciences (GILD), Expedia (EXPE), Take-Two Interactive (TTWO), Paramount Global (PARAA), Datadog (DDOG) and Capri Holdings (CPRI). Options trading implies a double-digit share price swing for Vroom (VRM) and Sweetgreen (SG) after their reports are released.
- All day – MicroStrategy (MSTR) will begin trading on a split-adjusted basis following the 10-for-1 stock split to shareholders of record on August 1.
- 3:00 p.m. Richmond Federal Reserve President Thomas Barkin will speak during a NABE webinar.
Friday – August 9
- Earnings watch – Notable companies due to report include AMC Networks (AMCX) and American Axle (AXL).
- All day – The Nasdaq will release its latest update on short interest positions.
- All day – A fresh batch of Nielsen data could impact how food, beverage, and household product stocks are viewed by investors.
- All day – The HSR waiting period for Boston Scientific’s (BSX) purchase of Silk Road Medical (SILK) is set to expire.
