Cisco aims to tackle AI infrastructure constraints as it launches Unified Edge platform

Cisco Systems (CSCO) aims to address capacity constraints related to artificial intelligence infrastructure with the launch of Unified Edge, a platform designed for agentic and physical AI workloads at the edge.

The platform extends data center power and scale to enable applications and AI inferencing where data is generated by enterprises, the company said. It is an integrated and single system designed for an array of businesses ranging from factories to health care centers. Cisco said this reaches a valuable market as more than half of enterprise AI pilot programs are facing constraints.

“Today’s infrastructure can’t meet the demands of powering AI at scale,” said Cisco Chief Product Officer Jeetu Patel. “As AI agents and experiences proliferate, they will naturally emerge closer to where customers interact and decisions are made – the branch office, retail store, factory floor, stadium, and more. That’s where compute needs to live. With our Unified Edge we’re making it easier to power AI in the real world with flexible, secure systems that are simple to deploy, operate, and scale as demand grows.”

Cisco’s integrations of Splunk and ThousandEyes are being used to provide end-to-end observability and security for the new platform.

Cisco shares had increased 1% during early market action on Monday. The company also received a new Buy rating from UBS.
