‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ leads box office for 2nd week
“Deadpool & Wolverine” this weekend was the highest-grossing movie in North America for a second straight week. Its estimated haul of $97 million raised its total to $395.6 million, making it the highest-grossing R-rated feature of all time, ahead of “The Passion of the Christ” at $370 million.
Worldwide, the feature from Disney’s (NYSE:DIS) Marvel Studios has grossed $824.1 million in ticket sales, surpassing the global total of the first two “Deadpool” films. The 2016 original generated $782.6 million worldwide and its 2018 sequel brought in $734.5 million.
In second place was “Twisters” from Comcast’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Universal Pictures with $22.7 million in its third weekend. The disaster film has grossed $195.6 million domestically.
M. Night Shyamalan’s “Trap” came in third place with $15.6 million for Warner Bros. (NASDAQ:WBD).
Among other debuting films, the live-action “Harold and the Purple Crayon” from Sony Pictures (NYSE:SONY) took in $6 million.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.
