‘Demon Slayer’ reigns again, while Jordan Peele’s ‘Him’ opens strong at No. 2

Sony/Crunchyroll’s (NYSE:SONY) Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle held the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office for the second weekend in a row, grossing an estimated $17.3 million from 3,342 locations. The anime juggernaut, part of a three-film trilogy based on the hit series, has now crossed the $100 million mark domestically with a cume of $104.7 million through Sunday, according to studio estimates compiled by Comscore.

Universal’s (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Him, produced by Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, debuted in second place with $13.5 million from 3,168 theaters in the United States and Canada, averaging $4,261 per location. Starring Marlon Wayans in a dramatic role alongside newcomer Tyriq Withers, the psychological horror-thriller centers on the mentorship between a legendary quarterback and a young athlete drawn into his secluded compound.

Warner Bros.’ (NASDAQ:WBD) The Conjuring: Last Rites continued to draw crowds in its third weekend, scaring up $12.95 million for a domestic total of $151.2 million and a global haul of $400 million. Lionsgate’s (NYSE:LION) Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk and Focus Features’ (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale tied for fourth, each taking in $6.3 million.

Among other new releases, Angel Studios’ sports drama The Senior earned $2.8 million, while Fathom Events’ Sight & Sound Presents: NOAH – Live! launched with $1.39 million. Sony’s (NYSE:SONY) romantic comedy A Big Bold Beautiful Journey collected $3.5 million in its sophomore outing.

IMAX (NYSE:IMAX) reported a $16.3 million weekend globally, with Demon Slayer contributing $5.1 million across new international markets. Universal’s Him also played selectively in IMAX, pulling in $1.9 million domestically.
