Disney saw ~7M subscription cancellations due to Kimmel’s suspension: report

A research report by Antenna from Monday showed that roughly 7M Disney+ and Hulu (NYSE:DIS) customers canceled their subscriptions cumulatively last month in reaction to the media and entertainment giant’s move to suspend comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s show.

The research firm that closely follows the streaming industry said in its report that about 3M subscribers canceled Disney+ in the U.S. in September, more than double the three-month trailing average of 1.2M, and Hulu saw 4.1M cancellations, up from 1.9M.

The rate of churn for Disney+ rose to 8% and 10% for Hulu, Antenna said in its report.

However, the company added 2.2M new subscribers for Disney+ in September through either a paid plan or a free trial, which is a 10% increase from last month. Hulu subscriber additions rose 5% to 2.1M new subscribers, Antenna said.
