Disney’s ‘Zootopia 2’ crushes it with $156M over Thanksgiving

Disney’s (DIS) “Zootopia 2” dominated the Thanksgiving box office, according to several reports citing Comscore.

The animated sequel grossed an estimated $156M domestically over the five-day period — with a global haul of $556M. That made it the biggest worldwide debut for an animated film in history.

The film leveraged its broad appeal, particularly in China, where it notched a record-breaking $272M.

Universal’s (CMCSA) “Wicked: For Good” brought in $93 million domestically during the same timeframe. Despite being in its second weekend, the musical adaptation maintained momentum, reaching a domestic total of $270M and $393M globally.

These performances contributed to a lucrative Thanksgiving box office, which recorded a total of about $294M, positioning it as one of the top five Thanksgiving weekends on record. Although it fell short of the 2024 benchmark of $424.9M, the weekend still demonstrated the resilience and appeal of well-executed family-friendly films.

The Thanksgiving lineup signaled a bustling holiday season ahead, setting the stage for further successes with upcoming releases such as Disney’s anticipated “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
