DOJ to ask judge to push Google to sell off Chrome browser – Bloomberg

The Dept. of Justice will ask a federal judge to force Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google to sell off its Chrome browser.

The regulator will also ask the judge to require measures related to artificial intelligence and the tech behemoth’s Android smartphone operating system, according to a Bloomberg report on Monday, which cited people familiar with the matter.

The DOJ also plans to propose that Google (GOOGL) uncouple Android from its other products, including search and its Google Play mobile app store, according to the report.

The DOJ’s recommendations come after judge Amit Meta ruled in August that Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) had built an illegal monopoly.

The DOJ “continues to push a radical agenda that goes far beyond the legal issues in this case,” Lee-Anne Mulholland, Google’s vice president of regulatory affairs, told Bloomberg. She added, “the government putting its thumb on the scale in these ways would harm consumers, developers and American technological leadership at precisely the moment it is most needed.”

The DOJ is scheduled to come out with its final list of proposed remedies on Wednesday, according to a report from last month.
