DoorDash (NASDAQ:DASH) and Kroger (KR) — the second-largest grocery chain in the U.S. — have expanded their partnership, providing customers access to Kroger’s (KR) full grocery assortment and delivery through the DoorDash (NASDAQ:DASH) app.
Beginning October 1, Kroger (KR) and DoorDash (NASDAQ:DASH) will leverage Kroger’s (KR) network to new households with on-demand delivery.
“It’s a milestone that reflects our shared commitment to giving households more choice, value, and convenience in how they shop for groceries,” said DoorDash COO Prabir Adarkar in a statement.
DoorDash (DASH) customers will now be able to shop at Kroger’s (KR) family of stores directly on the DoorDash app. The collaboration will also allow the two to develop new delivery models, and advertising opportunities.
The defection of Instacart’s (CART) third-largest customer—trailing only Publix and Costco (COST) —to DoorDash (DASH) adds to mounting pressures from Amazon (AMZN) and Walmart’s (WMT) aggressive delivery pushes.
Accordingly, while the news elevated DoorDash (DASH) shares at the open, Instacart (CART) turned defensive, down as much as 7% before Monday’s opening bell for a third straight day in the red.
