Duke Energy, NextEra Energy restore power for most Floridians hit by hurricane
Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) said Monday it has restored power to more than 95% of its customers in central Florida following Hurricane Milton, meeting and in many cases exceeding the company’s estimated restoration time.
Duke (DUK) said total storm-related outages have fallen from more than 1M to ~105K, with most customers who remain without power in Pinellas and Pasco counties expected to be restored by the end of the day tomorrow.
Outages among customers of NextEra Energy’s (NEE) Florida Power & Light unit have dropped to fewer than 100K out of 5.87M customers tracked on PowerOutage.us.
On Sunday, President Biden announced $612M in recovery aid for areas stricken by hurricanes Milton and Helene.
“This funding will not only restore power, but will make the region’s power system stronger and more capable and reduce the frequency and duration of power outages while extreme weather events become more frequent,” Biden said.
