Elon Musk ordered to attend hearing in Philadelphia over $1M voter giveaway
A judge has ordered Elon Musk to attend a hearing Thursday morning after he was sued by the Philadelphia district attorney over the daily $1M cash giveaway for registered voters in swing states.
The sweepstakes from Musk’s pro-Trump America PAC is open to voters in certain states that sign a petition supporting the First and Second Amendments of the Constitution.
“More than 87,000 checks have been sent out to people who referred signers of our petition in support of the Rights to Free Speech and Bear Arms and another 100,000 checks are being mailed tomorrow,” America PAC posted on X on Wednesday.
The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office claimed the cash giveaway was an “illegal lottery” that was trying to influence voters ahead of the presidential election.
It also said the lawsuit “triggered an avalanche of posts from Musk’s followers” on social media that included antisemitic attacks on D.A. Larry Krasner.
Meanwhile, Musk shared a post on X that claimed Krasner knew the cash prize was not illegal “but wants a leftist judge to stop it before Election Day.”
The judge ordered all parties – Musk, an America PAC representative and Krasner – to attend the hearing on Thursday. While Krasner requested enhanced security for the hearing, the judge did not address his concerns.
