Ford Motor (NYSE:F) is recalling 1,456,417 vehicles in the U.S. due to a defect in rear-view cameras that may cause the display to show distorted, inverted, or blank images when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The issue raises safety concerns as it could reduce drivers’ visibility when backing up, increasing the risk of crashes.
Dealers will inspect the rearview cameras and replace them if necessary, free of charge. The recall covers certain 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC, Mustang, F-350 SD, F-250 SD, F-450 SD, 2015-2017 Lincoln Navigator, Expedition, 2015-2018 Edge, Transit Connect, 2016-2019 F-550 SD, Transit, 2017-2019 Econoline, and 2019 Ranger vehicles.
This latest recall adds to what has already been a record year for Ford in terms of safety recalls. By June 2025, Ford had issued 88 safety recalls, more than any other automaker for a full year, according to the Wall Street Journal. A major recall earlier this year involved 850,000 pickups and SUVs tied to potential fuel-pump failures.
In a separate notice, Canadian auto parts supplier Magna International (MGA) recalled over 250,000 rearview cameras fitted in select Ford and Stellantis (STLA) vehicles.
