Ford Motor (F) is recalling 119,075 vehicles in the U.S. as the engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in and increasing the risk of fire.
The recall covers 116,672 units of 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine, as well as 2,403 units of 2016-2018 Focus, 2019 Explorer, and 2024 Explorer vehicles.
Ford (F) is also recalling 2,633 engine block heaters, with part numbers CV6Z-6A051-CA and CV6Z-6A051-AA, sold as accessory parts for certain 2013-2019 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with 2.0L engines.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heaters until the vehicles are repaired, NHTSA said, adding that dealers will replace the block heaters free of charge.
As of December 3, 2025, Ford is aware of 12 Ford Escape 2.0L vehicle owners that are alleging vehicle fires caused by the CV6T engine block heater.
