Sales of foreign-branded phones, including Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone, in China fell 31.3% year-over-year in June, Reuters reported, citing data from a government-affiliated research firm.
The data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, or CAICT, showed that shipments of foreign-branded phones had declined to 1.971 million units in June from 2.869 million handsets in the same month a year ago, the report added.
Overall phone sales in China declined 9.3% to 22.598 million units in June, the report noted.
Apple faces growing competition from local rivals such as Huawei Technologies and vivo in the Chinese smartphone market.
