General Motors (NYSE:GM) paused production at its Silao, Mexico plant—a key facility for its top-selling Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks—for several weeks in July and is planning additional shutdowns in August 2025, according to a Reuters report that cites sources familiar with the matter.
The plant was inactive for the first two weeks of July and is scheduled to halt operations again during the weeks of August 4 and 11, according to the report.
The carmaker confirmed planned downtime but did not disclose the exact dates publicly, stating only that these pauses are part of a “standard operating process.”
The downtime likely comes amid broader supply chain pressures, including renewed U.S. tariffs under President Donald Trump and China’s export restrictions on rare-earth materials critical to automotive components.
