Google (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL) has added on-device artificial intelligence features for its new Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, which include organizing tabs and documents, AI image editing and simplifying complex texts, the company announced today.
The Arm-based (ARM) MediaTek Kompanio Ultra processor powers the laptop. The NPU boasts up to 50 trillion operations per second, or TOPS, for handling AI tasks. It also has a battery life of up to 17 hours, which Google said is its longest ever for a Chromebook Plus.
The new on-device AI features include smart grouping, which logically orders tabs and documents, and AI image editing directly through a user’s photo library. Google is also launching new AI features across its Chromebook Plus portfolio. These include using the screenshot tool to learn more about anything located on the screen, and text capture, which pulls information from images and transforms it into editable text. There is a new Quick Insert key to generate AI images on demand, and a tool to simplify long and complex blocks of text.
Google is also offering new features in Gemini and NotebookLM for members of Google’s AI Pro Plan. Purchasers of new Chromebooks receive the first 12 months free. It normally costs $240 per year. The new Chromebooks range from $649 to $749, depending on the amount of RAM.
The new Chromebook also features a larger screen optimized version of “Squid Game: Unleashed,” which is developer by Boss Fight and Netflix (NFLX) Game Studio. This is expected to be released within the next few weeks.
