Google expands on data center, cloud infrastructure in South Carolina
Google (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL) is investing $3.3B in the Palmetto State as the tech titan expands its data center, cloud infrastructure.
“We’re investing $3.3B in South Carolina to break ground on two new data centers, expand our cloud and data center infrastructure, create local jobs, and support economic activity,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai posted on X Thursday afternoon.
The two new data centers are being built in Dorchester County, which is northwest of Charleston. The South Carolina is part of Google Cloud’s 40-region global network, which covers more than 200 countries and territories.
Amazon Web Services (AMZN) leads the market share of all cloud infrastructure service providers with 31%, according to data by Statista. It is followed by Microsoft (MSFT) Azure with 25%, while Google Cloud holds 11%.
